4245 THEORY AND METHODOLOGY IN THE TEACHING OF ENGLISH IN SECONDARY SCHOOL

This course was a true blessing to progres myself as a future teacher. I struggle at making lesson plan from the beginning to the end, however I truly believe the vast practice of creating lessons plans was a blessing and got to better myself. I learn different learning methods and approaches that teacher use in classrooms, to which I got to decide which ones where more beneficial and which ones I could identify that are closets to my future style of teaching will be. I choose this lesson plan because it was my first one to finish and I am proud of it, it was a struggle to make and I hit a wall but I push through it and made the lesson plan. In the lesson plan I teach about vocabulary, to which I believe is very important because I believe expanding the vocabulary knowledge of students is a big important aspect of their education and can broaden their speech.

4005: SEMINAR OF CURRICULUM AND STUDENT TEACHING IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL

The course was an immense help, and it prepared me for when I start my practice. One of my accomplishments in this course is my teaching philosophy essay and presentation. The first thing I learned from this activity was the term "teaching philosophy," as well as the fact that we as teachers have one, which I had no idea I needed. Learning and reading about what a teacher's philosophy is, was very instructive and eye opening. This activity got me thinking and analyzing how I see myself as a future teacher and how I want to be as a teacher. By writing and investigating how teachers are supposed to be, and remembering how they used to teach the teachers that helped shape the woman that I am today, I found myself in the details and saw how I would be as a teacher.

This project will help shape my future as a teacher while also serving as a reminder. A reminder to not stray away from my vision. to not become a teacher who just dumps all the information and expects the students to memorize, an archaic way of teaching that I never want to do or become. I will utilize this essay at the start of every semester to remind myself of who I am as a teacher and my ideas as to what I believe teaching is.

In terms of what I would have done differently on my essay, I would have added a bit more about my view of myself as a future teacher and would have added the fact that I will also like to add importance to speaking English in my lessons. I have noticed that we don't give a lot of importance to speaking in the classroom. I would like to add activities where the students will have conversations in English. We have projects as oral presentations, but I don't want to stick only with what is customary to do; I want to do other activities where the students can practice their speech, where what they say comes naturally to them and is not something they memorized and might not even fully know what they are saying.

4246: Secondary Level Teaching Practice

My practice shows how far I have grown from my first year to my last year and shows how much I improved from February to May. I am so proud of the work that I have done this semester. My practice was a succes, I was able to apply all the knowledge that I learn from all this past years. I had the most fufilling experince, where I learned from my mistakes and did new technicques to teach the students. I am very proud of my wark, that shows my work in the unit that was assaign to me by the teacher in the school. The practice was a succes and I leave my practice knowing that I chnaged the life of my studets for the better aqnd left on them great knowledge.

The objectives used, the instruction done, and the assessments were done in linear aligned way. Each concept can be seen between each other, no objective, no instruction no assessment was given independently from the others, all of them were align for the end goal, to effectively have student learn the main focus concepts from the unit. Each worksheet was chosen or created to further work, impose and grain in them the knowledge given from the unit. An excellent idea for me, which I will used in the future is incorporate more outside, to have them see the nature not be stuck in a four-wall classroom. Also, I would like to incorporate and do it right, the idea of students conducting the classroom, as in them giving the class. Adding so, combine mental health with games activities, by promoting both physical and mental activity and performance it could out more by using the different types of intelligence. These improvements will help student language skills and communicative competence by working the multiple intelligences and providing an outside of the box concept. 27 Having this fresh way of learning could help improve the lack of want to learn and unstuck them from the low withdrawals of the two years being stuck at home thanks to the pandemic. My professional goals are for student be conformable speaking English as their second language, to have them be comfortable to speak to their peers in English without the fear of being judge but instead celebrated and appreciated. I want the student to understand that we all have accents, they aren’t speaking it wrong, they just have their native accent, even the native speakers of the language have accents. I want to have one for each month to have a mental relax day, physical relax day and cultural relax day. For the mental day I want the students to relax and leave out their baggage there are caring in a safe place by using English to express their frustrations. For physical day I want to do activities, more game incline where they have to used their bodies and implement lessons and concepts from the unit being teach. Lastly for cultural, have a day to reflect on what is happening in Puerto Rico and our pop culture. With this combine it will provide optimal learning environment for students because it shows that learning English is very down to Earth and not this supreme, elite, and difficult language that most students believe English is. Having English become more available, accessible, and approachable to them.
